Vigilance Stepped Up In Coimbatore District with the Spread of HFMD

Kerala is witnessing the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease (HFMD) in several regions. As a result, the Coimbatore administration has stepped up its vigilance across the district and the along the inter-state border. The district administration stated that two health officials have been deployed to check travelers from Kerala entering Coimbatore. Meanwhile, a team of 24 healthcare workers has been formed to diagnose and screen every Anganwadi located in the region for any symptoms.

HFMD, also dubbed tomato flu is known to be easily transmittable among children under the age of five. It manifests as blisters, rashes on several body parts, severe fever, and pain in young children. However, it is non-fatal and self-limiting.

P. Aruna, Deputy Director of Health Services for Coimbatore district stated that there have been no cases reported till now. She also stated that preventive measures are being taken and if any child is found with symptoms, he/she would be isolated to prevent the spread.
